Introduction

The Wharf and Dock Builders, Pile Drivers and Divers, Local Union #454, of the Metropolitan Regional Council of Philadelphia and Vicinity, of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, was founded in 1913.  The members and signatory contractors of Local Union #454 serve every aspect of the heavy foundation, marine construction, and commercial diving markets throughout the areas of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland.

The members and signatory contractors of Local Union #454 construct the foundations for buildings of any size, bridges on land and over water, waterfront access structures like wharfs, ports, and piers, and provide commercial diving services anywhere there is a need to inspect, repair, and salvage something under water.

The tasks associated with all of these different types of projects can be summarized by the short list of following activities:

  1. Sheeting.
  2. Shoring.
  3. Retention.
  4. Driving all types of piles by any means.
  5. False Work Fabrication.
  6. Water Front Construction.
  7. Water Front Commercial Diving.
  8. Industrial Commercial Diving.
  9. Concrete Form and Cap Work.

All members of Local Union #454 are trained and certified in rigging and signaling, welding and burning, under water welding, layout, print reading, aerial lift, OSHA 10 to 30, false work fabrication, concrete form work, Hazmat training, PSM Palm Built Rite, Solar roof top and ground mount install training, DAN 02 for commercial divers, fall protection, TWIC cards, etc.  Local Union #454 will work with any signatory contractor, in association with the Joint Apprenticeship Center (JAC), to provide any training and or certifications already not offered.

It is the purpose of Local Union #454 to secure a livable wage, safe working conditions, medical benefits, and a retirement with dignity for all of the members of L.U. #454 in exchange for providing all signatory employers with the most proficient and thoroughly trained employees who will work to the mutual benefit of their employer and Local Union #454.

Family Picnic

Join us for a family picnic day on August 2, 2014 at Neshaminy Shore Picnic Park (www.nspp.com) located at 13 Beaver Street Hulmeville, PA  19047. The picnic will begin at 11AM and will conclude at 6PM, admission will be $12.00 for anyone over the age of 12; guests under the age of 12 enter for free.  Kindly reply, and remit all money to Local Union No. 454 at 1803 Spring Garden Street Philadelphia, PA 19130 ATTN: Family Picnic with a total headcount (including children under the age of 12) no later than July 7, 2014.
